Buccaneer Bay's pirate ship, Hesketh Park and Worcester Park's zip wire lead 14 Dartford playgrounds, with ages, gate times and dog rules from the council.
Most Dartford families head for Buccaneer Bay in Central Park, the council’s two-and-a-half-acre pirate play park with summer water play; Hesketh Park, the other big one; Darenth Country Park for natural play; and Worcester Park in Stone, which has a zip wire. Every entry checked against Dartford Borough Council’s own pages on 26 October 2026.
We have not reviewed these playgrounds and nothing here is a rating. Each entry sets out what the council, or for Ebbsfleet the designer, publishes: the age range, the equipment, whether the gates are locked at night and what is nearby. Where a source did not say whether there are toilets or parking, we have not guessed.
The rebuild. The council has been refurbishing its playgrounds since 2022 and says the work is done, with 27 playgrounds fully renovated, as part of a programme it put at £1.5 million in 2022. The designs for each site are on its playground refurbishment page.
The rules. On every council playground, dogs are not allowed, adults may only go in with a child, and priority on the equipment goes to under-12s. The council says each one is inspected and cleaned daily except Christmas Day. Report broken equipment on 01322 343434.
Dark evenings. Several playgrounds sit inside parks with locked gates. Central Park locks from 6.35pm in the last week of October and from 5.45pm through November to January; Hesketh Park from 6.05pm, then 5.15pm. Others are open at all hours, as noted below.

Castle Hill, Ebbsfleet
Not a council site: this play area was built in 2015 as part of the Castle Hill development in the former Eastern Quarry, and its designer, Timberplay, says it is open to neighbouring communities as well as residents. According to the designer’s project write-up, it is aimed at toddlers to juniors and takes its theme from the area’s prehistoric past: a “Muddy Mire” with a small elephant slide, honouring the Ebbsfleet elephant found during the building of HS1, and a “Forest Swamp” with a climbing forest. We could not find a current published description from the estate’s managers, so check locally before a special trip.
How we chose
These are the playgrounds Dartford families search for, and the ones with published details we could check: every major and large site on Dartford Borough Council’s list, a spread of the medium sites across the borough, and the best-documented play area at Ebbsfleet. The council lists more small toddler sites, and says parish and town councils run another 21 play facilities, from Stone Recreation Ground and Swanscombe Heritage Park to the Oval in Longfield. The facts come from the council’s playground and park pages and its announcements, and the designer’s write-up for Castle Hill. Run a park, a cafe beside one, or spot something that has changed?
